New CPA's

January 22, 2018

MHP is excited to announce that four more employees have recently passed all of the CPA exams and are now Certified Public Accountants.

Allison Pic.jpgAllison Kerkvilet is from Sundance, Wyoming. She earned her  Bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Wyoming (UW). When asked how she knew accounting was for her, Allison responded, “After trying out psychology my first semester of college, I realized something on the business side was more for me. I really enjoyed my first accounting class in high school, so I went back to that, and it stuck. I was excited about the career opportunities accounting brought, and knew I would be challenged every day.” Allison also gave some insight on studying for the CPA exam and balancing that with her personal life. “I was never the type that could shut off my social life and just study, so balancing work, studying, and personal life was difficult for me at times. However, you begin to learn your routine of when you can take a break or not. It was something I was determined to get, so I never let up, even when I didn’t get the results I wanted the first time. Having the support of family, friends, and coworkers helped tremendously!” When not at work, Allison enjoys spending time with family and friends, hiking, reading and playing basketball or volleyball.

Clint Pic.jpgClint Darby went to UW and graduated with his Master’s degree in accounting. He chose public accounting because it gives the opportunity to see a wide variety of clients; from governments to doctors to ranchers and more. He says that no two clients are the same and that helps to keep him engaged and keeps the days interesting. When asked about the CPA exam, Clint says, “Passing the CPA exam was a full year journey for me and is my proudest professional accomplishment so far. I was fortunate to be able to get most of the exam out of the way when I was still in school, and I have a ton of respect for people who pass the whole thing while working full time. I won’t miss studying for it but now I need a new challenge.” When not at work, Clint enjoys anything outdoors – after all, that’s why he lives in Wyoming.

Josh Burgener is from Gering, Nebraska. He earned his undergraduate degree in accounting from York College and his master’s degree in accounting from UW.  At UW, he spent a year as a graduate assistant in the accounting department. He chose accounting because of his interest in numbers and business. Most of his prior work experience includes agricultural work with farmer’s cooperatives in Nebraska. When asked about the difficulty of the CPA exam, Josh said, “By far the biggest difficulty of taking the exam was trying to explain to family and friends the necessity of studying and why I could not participate in social events. Passing was important to me because of the merit a CPA license holds in the accounting profession. I also enjoyed taking the exams because of the challenge, which fed into my competitive nature.” Outside of work, Josh enjoys reading, watching sports and movies, going to the gym and spending time with family and friends.

Rachel Bevan is from Evanston, Wyoming. She earned her bachelors of accounting degree at UW. She chose accounting as her major after being undeclared for a year. She thought back to taking an accounting class in high school and really enjoying it and finally decided she wanted to be an accountant – debits and credits just made sense! When asked about her experience with the CPA exam, Rachel said, “This was actually my second go around with the CPA.  I tried to take the exam when I first started at MHP but didn’t take it as seriously as I should have.  Last summer, I finally decided to buckle down and get it done, and I am so glad I did! Passing was a huge accomplishment (and relief!) for me (it was also a great Christmas present since I found out I passed my last exam 6 days before Christmas!).” Outside of work, Rachel really enjoys traveling. She has been to Thailand, Canada, Mexico and all over the Caribbean and United States. She also likes to spend time with friends and family.

Congratulations to Allison, Clint, John and Rachel!!
